Vday Lovin’ ~ Nature’s Viagra!

Ok Following up on yesterday’s post about Nature’s Love Drug – Cacao, today I’d like to introduce you to Nature’s Viagra… Maca!

Maca is a root vegetable which originates from Peru, and the indigenous people in Peru have been using it for centuries to increase their energy and vitality. It tastes like a bitter caramel, and looks similar to a beet in its natural form. It can be purchased in Canada in a powder, liquid or pill form at your local health food store.

Maca can actually increase your libido because is works as an ‘adaptogen’ in our bodies which is a funky way of saying it helps to balance our hormones. So that means it can balance our sex hormones, with the side effect of increased sex drive. It can help us women manage PMS and menopause, and helps men adjust to Adropause (the loss of testosterone in their golden years), ie. ‘Irritable Man Syndrome’ (IMS), or affectionately referred to as ‘Grumpy Old Man Syndrome’… google it! It’s actually a thing!!

In addition, maca is also well known to help manage stress, and boost our energy levels while simultaneously calming us down. Miracle, right?!

Every single body is different so everyone’s daily dosage of maca will be different, consult your natural health care provider for your recommended dosage. And remember that as with everything in natural medicine, nothing is a quick fix. Everyone will take a different length of time to see results, but with maca it doesn’t take long.

*Avoid maca if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding as it is quite powerful and your and your baby’s hormones are in a delicate balance during these times. But once your baby is weaned it’s a great tool to help you re-balance your hormones.*

Don’t forget to check in tomorrow when I’ll tell you how you can use both Cacao and Maca in your everyday foods! And provide a very simple recipe you can make for your sweety-pie for Valentine’s Day : )
